Round Table Discussion“European Union Energy Policy: Sharing Knowledge” Takes Place in Minsk

On 8-9 June 2009, the Office for a Democratic Belarus (Brussels) together with the Delegation of the European Commission in Belarus, the Embassy of Sweden to Belarus, the Foundation for Legal Technologies Development (Ukraine) and the Belarusian Institute for strategic Studies held a round table discussion, entitled “European Union Energy Policy: Sharing Knowledge”.

During the two-day event, representatives of the EU Institutions, officials of Belarus’ Ministry of Energy, fellows of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences and independent experts discussed the prospects of co-operation between the EU and Belarus in the area of energy, the issues of alternative energy sources development, and the modernisation of the energy sector of Belarus. The high level of interest expressed in the subject points out to the necessity of holding regularly this kind of events that bring together a diverse range of participants, from state officials to independent experts.

This event, which was held in Minsk, is the continuation of a joint project of the Office for a Democratic Belarus and the Foundation for Legal Technologies Development which is being carried out with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
